Thus 130BHP or 140BHP for a 2000 engine where we rate a factory engine at 115BHP. We also recommend fitting our Alfaholics ignition package to ensure optimum ignition advance curve for modern fuel and optimum spark quality.

I just thought i would let you know that our Alfaholics spec’d 1750 won the Indonesian Retro Championship for the third year in a row!

For the final event of 2011 we managed to qualify on the pole in a 49 car field (race was restricted to 45 starters) but a gear shifting problem forced us to fall back and finish in 3rd place, which was still good enough to win the 2011 Championship by 2 points!

The competition has been getting tougher with the entry of more mid-80s European cars to balance the previous Japanese domination (ie: a 16v Mercedes 190E placed 2nd in the 2011 Championship and an E30 BMW 318 finished in 3rd place), so we have had to spec up a bit.

(The Retro Series allows all 2-Liter vintage cars including 16-valve engines, up to a 1986 chassis model. Other marques making up the large grids include Datsun 510 and B310, Toyota Corolla DX, BMW 2002 and 318 E30, Fiat 124, Alfa GTV and Giulia, Mercedes 190E, Renault 5TL, Morris Mini, etc.)

We are still using the Alfaholics 218hp TS engine for the third straight year without a rebuild! The original racecar build also consisted of many Alfaholics parts including:-

And combined with an engine that produces 251 Nm of torque over 2000 rpm rev range, it has produced an overall package that is competitive with the mid-80s 16-valve cars.

During development, we ran a set of these rods to 9,800rpm without failure!

The oil gallery design has been greatly improved to provide better oil flow to the bearings at high revs. The counterweights have been optimized, both in terms of mass and design, to ensure that the piston and rod assembly is accurately counterweighted all the way to 9,500rpm. If the crank is being used in bigger bore applications, for example in single seaters, heavy metal inserts can be fitted to the holes in the webs to match the higher piston mass and maintain perfect counterweighting. The original ‘half moon’ system for locating the flywheel bolts has been replaced with direct threading of the crank using M10 bolts for improved strength. The crank is supplied nitrided.

New Alfaholics production. In designing this crank, we started from scratch using modern knowledge into optimum crank design and CAD to design the optimum crank for the Alfa 2000 Nord and Twinspark engine. The crank features a special oil gallery design that improves oil flow to the bearings at high revs and has the counterweight webs shaped very specifically to give optimum counterweighting to the piston & rod at high revs, something which is not very good with the original Alfa crank. Furthermore, the big ends are specially bored hollow to further reduce centrifugal weight. We stretched the stroke of the crank to the maximum possible whilst ensuring the crank fits the block without modifications, this has increased by 5.5mm to 94mm, which gives just over 2100cc with 84.6mm bore, or just under 2300cc with 87mm bore. The crank comes fully nitride and superfinished to reduce frictional losses. Our development engine has produced 15BHP extra with this new crank versus an original Alfa crank.
