Alfaholics can build 8v 2.0 Twin Spark engines for road / track day or full race use, ranging from 1999cc-2150cc. Engines can be built as either using the early 75/164 cylinder head or with a S2 155 / 164 head.

Whether you want EFI injection or carburettors, we have a solution for your needs. Performance options ranging from 190-240BHP.

We can supply a complete package of ancillaries to go with engines to ensure inlet, ECU, clutch & exhaust parts all match the specification of the engines we supply.

Please note that we are not able to supply donor engines so you will need to provide a rebuildable core engine along with a 105 style upper sump pan if it is for 105/115 chassis installation.

In designing this crank, we started from scratch using modern knowledge of optimum crank design and CAD to design the optimum crank for the Alfa 2000 Nord and Twin Spark engine.

We stretched the stroke of the crank to the maximum possible whilst ensuring the crank fits the block without modifications, this has increased by 5.5mm to 94mm, which gives just over 2100cc with 84.6mm bore, or just under 2300cc with 87mm bore. Our development engine has produced 15BHP extra with this crank versus an original Alfa crank. This results in Twin Spark engines producing 230-240BHP and Nord engines producing 220-230BHP.

In designing the crank we were very conscious to remove any weight where unnecessary, and thus the big ends are specially bored hollow to reduce centrifugal weight. The counterweighting has been optimised with very specifically shaped and sized webs to ensure perfect piston/rod counterweighting at high revs, something that the original Alfa crank is rather poor at. The result is a long stroke, increased capacity crankshaft that revs up faster and is more free revving than a factory crankshaft.

After the billets are turned they undergo a stabilising process where the billets are reheated and left to cool, this removes any of the machine stresses and further improves the qualities of the material, once the cranks are finished milling they undergo an internal rumbling process that deburrs the machined surfaces and also assists with further de-stressing of the material.

Crankshafts are pre and post-nitride CNC ground for accuracy and control of journal sizes as well as nitriding case depth uniformity. Gas nitride hardening achieves a bearing surface hardness up to 900 Hv to approx. 0.5mm.

Convert away from original twin distributor or avoid expensive GTA 8-point distributor conversion with this superb crank trigger wheel controlled ECU system.

This system has the flexibility to be used as ‘ignition only’ or (with the appropriate extra parts included in the ‘add-to’ box) EFI. As ignition only, it is a full 3D setup which uses a throttle position sensor connected to the front carburettor to adjust ignition advance against both revs and throttle angle/load. The system comes with a coolant temperature sensor so that the ECU knows when the engine is cold to add warm up ignition advance, and has an output driver to control a relay to operate an electric fan to look after engine temperature control. It has additional programmable features such as a table to control idle engine revs by varying ignition timing to maintain a stable idle speed. These features add up to a result that allows ignition timing to be refined far beyond what a distributor engine can achieve resulting in smoother power delivery and great idle stability.

This system really is the ultimate way to run any carburettor Alfa engine, giving a proportion of the advantages of an injection set up but without the additional expense/complication. It comes complete with 2 coil packs for running on the more common Twin Spark installation, but equally can be used on late Nord engines which come equipped with a 60-2 trigger wheel and Bosch sensor on the front cover to send the ECU the required engine speed/position data, in this application you simply only wire in one of the coil packs. The kit comes complete with a QR code to scan to load a full installation spreadsheet, pin by pin, colour by colour. The ECU is pre-loaded with an Alfaholics specific map fore both ignition and fuel to be used as a base for you to adjust to match you specific engine requirements. Note that with differing compression/crown design engine to engine and in EFI format, differing injector/throttle body size, both ignition and fuel tables will need adjusting to ensure correct settings are achieved – this must be done at a professional rolling road tuning centre.

If you want to use it for EFI application, you can combine it with any aftermarket throttle body set, it can be run blind without lambda control, or as per our recommendation with wide band lambda closed loop control system.

The individual throttle bodies are bespoke, and feature lightweight trumpets and a billet CNC machined fuel rail. This full assembly represents an amazing 1.5kg weight saving over an equivalent cast manifold with traditional throttle bodies.

The inlet manifold features 2 heater outlet ports, an M12 boss for an ECU water temperature sender and a bracket for attaching an original Alfa throttle quadrant.

Over the past 5 years we have been exclusively installing Motec management on our GTA-R builds with stunning results. The setup, monitoring sensors and associated software control systems are unrivalled and the ability to log and analyse 120Mb of previous running data during/after driving allow you to review and refine your map settings with exceptional detail. The system runs fully sequential fuel injection & ignition to give cleaner burning and lower fuel consumption compared with a non-sequential batch fire systems.

Specific features include:-

  • 1000Hz processor speed
  • Knock sensor trims ignition timing, monitored at a quite remarkable 200Hz. Due to the sequential ignition, it knows which cylinder has knocked and only changes the ignition timing on the specifically required cylinder.
  • Wideband lambda control live adjusts injector time to ensure lambda stays to the control table target
  • Air pressure sensor adjusts fuel volume delivery to match barometric pressure
  • Coolant temp sensor enables optimisation of cold start and warm up by adjusting injector enrichment and ignition timing advance
  • Air temp sensor enables optimisation of running in different ambient temperatures
  • Fuel pressure sensor monitors live fuel pressure and maps required injector timing it against an algorithm for the flow characteristics of our specific chosen injector against varying fuel pressure
  • Cam sensor to allow fully sequential injector/ignition/knock control – please note you must make modifications to you head/exhaust cam to install this
  • Test function for you to test all components and accessories before first start to ensure all correct wiring and sensor gaps.
  • Supplied with our 2.1 GTA-R software map which can be adjusted to suit your individual installation. If using with other engine capacity we can adjust the cc in the software for you.

With this system fitted the engine will rev much freer with higher rev capability and in the region of 10BHP increase at max power and 8lb/ft torque. We have back to back tested this system with the CSC mild steel system and found our system has a 15BHP advantage @ 4,500 rpm!

To suit all 105 models with hydraulically operated clutch, both LHD and RHD, hanging or floor pedals. Conversion for mechanically operated clutch cars reasonably simple.

3 different link pipes to suit the 3 chassis lengths of the different 105 series models. Different tailpipes made to fit all the different models perfectly; for Duetto, Kammtail, 1300 Junior Zagato and GT/Saloon.

Comes complete with all brackets and clamps.
