The assembly is completed and the car represents a wonderful blend of its original Autodelta components matched with our top specification GTA race parts to make the car suitable for modern competition use on both circuits and road rally events.
Assembly completed to top European FIA App.K race specification, with a conscious effort to retain a high level of originality to this very special ex-Autodelta prepared 1600 GTA Corsa. It is now ready to road test & track test prior to its first race event.
Car being assembled to top FIA App.K race winning specification but with an emphasis for originality with regard to the appearance of the car.
The original special Autodelta rear seat has been cleaned and re-fitted without any re-trimming, the original Autodelta fibreglass dashboard has been refurbished and repainted, the original instruments refurbished and re-finished with the correct satin black bezels at Autodelta started doing in 1967.
We have installed an FIA kevlar fuel cell inside the original Autodelta 90 litre fuel tank and re-chromed the original quarterlight frames and will run wind up windows as per how Autodelta always ran their 1600 GTA Corsas.
With the original aluminium body repairs completed the car is now ready to paint. We have gone to great lengths to reuse as much original aluminium as was possible to re-use, and have only remade panels were absolutely necessary due to the originals being beyond repair, any new aluminium is in the correct 1mm thickness Peraluman 25 material to chemically match the material Alfa used.
With the steel chassis restoration completed, the car is installed with slave suspension and Dunlop historic race tyres ready for the aluminium body to be repaired and installed. Great care is being taken to repair as much original aluminium as possible and to only replace what is beyond repair.
With the chassis straightened on the Celette jig, the car now has had all the detail works and chassis repairs carried out.
Special jigs have been manufactured to adjust the roof frame and ensure the screen apertures are both the right size and in the correct positions, the same has been done for the boot floor.
We have prototyped bolt in/removable seat mounting frames that attach to the tunnel and inner sill as well as to the aluminium floors to prevent the floors tearing from cornering forces, as used to happen to Autodelta in period.
We have mounted the chassis onto our Celette jig and carefully pulled the car as required to straighten its alignment to ensure all the brackets line up for perfect chassis geometry. Next we will manufacture jigs to straighten and adjust the roof frame and inner wing alignment.
The doors were the only panels that had not been paint stripped prior to purchase so we have DA'ed these back to get a profile of the colours the car has been over its life. This shows that the car has been white, 2 shades of blue, gold, red and finally white again!
Found by Alfaholics, this original aluminium floor Autodelta 1600 GTA Corsa is in original, never restored condition – the holy grail of GTA projects! The car is effectively complete with all its original Autodelta components still with it.
Damaged in period and put away before being found in the 1980’s, stripped down totally to start a restoration that never went underway. Since then the car has sat dormant for nearly 30 years and has now arrived at the right place to be returned to its former glory.
