Alfaholics 8x15” GTAm Wheel
We are currently manufacturing a fantastic new wheel to add to our range of Alfa Romeo 105 Series wheels - an 8x15” version of the original 13” GTAm wheel.

Alfa Romeo, Ford and other manufacturers racing in the 1970s, made widebody versions of their race cars in order to fit wider tyres in an attempt to improve grip and therefore competitiveness. Tyre designs at the time were very antiquated compared with the compounds and constructions we have today, so the only option in the 70’s was to make tyres ever wider. Race tyres of the period were all huge in diameter which made it necessary to use 13” wheels in order to fit the wheel wells and retain sensible gearing. This inevitably meant compromising on brake disc size and limiting the scope to improve suspension geometry but this was considered secondary to the benefits of using a wider tyre.

Fast forward to the 21st century and vast improvements in tyre design and compounds mean that ultra wide tyres are no longer necessary and, in fact, can often be detrimental if the chassis is unable to work the tyre up to its operating temperature. 13” wheels have also fallen out of fashion with modern car design and consequently good 13” tyres are very hard to find. The only choice in 13” is to use either a modern semi-slick race tyre or a period high profile Dunlop CR65 race tyre. Semi-slicks offer good grip but the small overall wheel/tyre diameter causes serious ground clearance issues for road/trackday use. Increasing the ride height merely results in a ‘skateboard’ appearance. The alternative is to fit period race tyres but they are not legal for road use and their cross-ply construction makes the car vague and track cambers badly, not to mention being terrible in the wet! So, it raises the question; why spend lots of money and effort creating a lovely GTAm look but suffer appalling compromises and difficulties with a 13” wheel & tyre combination?

Well, the perfect solution is now here! You can have a stunning GTAm look wheel but in 15” diameter to suit high performance modern road and race tyres. The larger diameter also allows the use of our 4-pot and 6-pot brake conversions, neither of which are possible with a 13” rim. It also permits the use of the Alfaholics Geometry Kit which gives a significant improvement to the handling characteristics.

We have spent a lot of time and effort with 3-D CAD programming perfecting the shape of this wheel, especially the oval hole design, to ensure that it accurately replicates the original wheel, rather than the incorrectly shaped holes of reproduction 13” wheels.

We are currently taking pre-orders for the first production so if you would like to reserve a set, please get in contact!

Alfaholics Magnesium 7x14” GTA Wheel
Manufactured exclusively for Alfaholics by the UK’s leading motorsport magnesium wheel manufacturer. This wheel has been manufactured to the very highest standards and designed with meticulous attention to detail, in order to ensure that it is an exact copy of the original 1st series Campagnolo wheel. Particular attention was paid to the accuracy of the vent hole - the main aesthetic feature. The wheel has been cast using the latest motorsport spec magnesium alloy, developed for Formula 3 racing and as a result weighs a mere 5.3kg, 0.2kg lighter than the original Alfa wheel! The wheels are finished in a protective black chromate coating, ready to be painted in the customer’s choice of colour. They are machined to the correct ET29 offset for 1600 & 1300 GTA and accept our GTA wheel badge and circlip. The wheels feature steel stud inserts (important for magnesium wheels) and are supplied with GTA centre badges and circlips.

Alfaholics GTA Strada 6x14

Alfaholics GTA Corsa 7x14
Manufactured in the UK exclusively for Alfaholics. Superb quality and lightweight. Not to be confused with other products on the market!

ET24 allows clearance of steering ball joint on all 105 Series models, but this prevents use on early GT with deep rear arch or any Saloon model. For those looking for a fast road/trackday/non-FIA race wheel, we strongly recommend fitting our new 7x15" GTA Veloce wheel instead. Our new Veloce wheel is lighter than our 7x14" GTA wheel at a mere 7.3kg, quality is superior from our new factory, it is stronger, fully TUV approved and the range of tyres available is far greater and more secure than in 14" diameter.

Alfaholics GTA Corsa 7x14 ET29
Manufactured in the UK exclusively for Alfaholics. Same as Alfaholics GTA Corsa wheels, but machined to the correct GTA offset (ET29) and with steel stud inserts to cope with the regular removal required by racing. For fitment with correct GTA uprights only, or with 5mm spacers on the front of any 105.

Alfaholics GTA Veloce 7X15
NOW IN STOCK!

Alfaholics is proud to announce production of the ultimate GTA style aluminium wheel, exclusively for Alfaholics in a brand new state of the art factory!

Over the last few years we have seen the gradual withdrawal of performance 14 inch tyres from the market, only to be superseded by a tyre that is unavailable in 14 inch. Firstly, the Yokohama A520, then the superb Bridgestone Potenza RE 720, quickly followed by Yokohama’s A539. There is now no performance road tyre available in 14 inch so there is little point in spending good money upgrading the suspension, engine and brakes of your 105 series car, if you cannot transmit the capabilities of these products to the road properly!

With this trend becoming evident, a seed started growing some while ago at Alfaholics to produce a 7x15” lightweight aluminium GTA wheel. A huge amount of time, effort and research has gone into the design of this wheel. It had to fit the widest range of 105s, after all, we know that all models are used as performance cars, not just GTs after 1967 which have the easiest rear wheel fitment.

Full size resin models were made so that we could perfect the visual appearance of the scaled up 7x14” Alfaholics GTA Corsa wheel. It was essential to keep all the character of this wheel when designing the new 7x15” version. As you can see from the photos, it is stunning!

We further knew that weight was an important issue. We had a fight on our hands to make such a solid wheel of this size sufficiently light, when its intended use is for high performance driving and racing. We finally triumphed and are delighted to announce that the wheel is just 7.3kgs (16.5lbs)! This has been achieved by incorporating small ribs in the back of the wheel, very much like the original sixties design, that allowed the wheel to be made thinner in cross-section. The beauty of this thin cross section is that it has aided the visual appearance of the wheel, by making the holes look thinner.

Being 15” diameter removes all steering ball joint clearance issues on the front of normal 105s without GTA type steering arms, which has allowed us to produce the wheel to Alfa’s original design offset of ET29. We realised, however, that this would remain a problem on the back of lowered pre ‘68 GT’s (with deep rear arches), as well as all saloon models. Accordingly, we have incorporated into the design, the ability to make the wheel to ET35. Thus, there are two different offsets available. This will ensure the VELOCE wheel fits ALL models. Suggested tyre sizes are 195/55 R15 for fast road and track day use or 205/50 R15 for race application. The wheel is fully TUV approved for the German market and to illustrate its overall strength and integrity.

The wheel is manufactured in a state of the art UK wheel factory which already supplies OE wheels to Aston Martin, Lotus & Bentley. Quality is like no other previously seen in the classic car aftermarket wheel world!
