Car As Sourced

Our customer asked us to find him a nice original LHD GT Junior as a basis for him to enjoy as an occasional weekend car at his home in South America. We sourced this remarkably original 1970 GT 1300 Junior from southern Europe. It was a one owner car, never repainted, not a single spot of rust anywhere and only 57,000kms from new. After 43 years however, it had plenty of parking dings and some light scratches in the paint, made worse by the owner using the car as a step to reach storage in the roof of his garage! The interior was completely original, if a bit grubby, but nothing a proper cleaning would not sort out. Have flown to see the car, a road test showed the car to be mechanically excellent – a strong engine, good gearbox, quick axle and thus the purchase of the car was secured on the spot.

When restoring a car like this, maintaining originality is critical and we felt that it was essential to retain the original paint on this car! It would have been easier to give the car a light fill and repaint it, but this would have detracted from its wonderful originality. When the car arrived at Alfaholics, the first job was to remove all the dents. Once completed, the matt paintwork (which had not seen any polish for many years) was machine polished with 2 grades of super fine cutting compound before receiving a full wax polish. Care was taken to not ‘over polish’ the car, to ensure that we could achieve the correct balance of presentation and patina.
