Stage 2 - Accident Damage Found - Chassis Jigged
Body restoration
What looked like a straightforward restoration of a rust free car quickly changed once the engine was removed and a damaged chassis leg and engine cross-member was revealed! The car was taken to Neil Cawthorn Accident Repair specialist to be put on his Celette jig using original 105 series chassis brackets recently purchased by Alfaholics.
There was clear evidence that the car had been hit hard in the front, but once on the jig, Neil found that when being repaired, the right chassis leg had been pulled too far forward. Hence the excessive castor and camber we observed when manoeuvring the shell.
Front panels removed from the car to enable chassis to be pulled
Front chassis leg pickup points for the jig brackets
Gearbox saddle and trailing arm pickup points
Repair to front of RH chassis leg
Neil happy that the car is now straight! New original old stock wing and front panel were fitted in order to finish the job properly.
The car was then stripped to bare metal to be ready for panel beating and a colour change from green to silver.
