With life so busy at Alfaholics, we have struggled to find the time to get our race GTA out in 2012. Our first outing of the year would be at the Silverstone Classic meeting in the U2TC race. What initially seemed like plenty of time to get the car ready, turned into last minute preparations and no chance to test the car beforehand either! We had made a few upgrades to the car over the winter so we were keen to see how they might improve our pace. On Friday, we managed to dodge the rain and had a dryMore... |

Our first race of 2011 was at the prestigious Silverstone Classic event, where we received an entry for our FIA App.K 1600 GTA in the ultra-competitive U2TC series. This event has exploded in size over the past few years, becoming the number one ‘must race at’ meeting in the European historic calendar. Arriving on Thursday, it was clear to see the sheer scale of the race paddocks and the official stats for the weekend were deeply impressive; over 1,100 cars racing and over 80,000 spectators, making it not only the ‘The World’s Biggest Classic Racing Festival’ but also making itMore... |

For our last race of the year, we couldn’t resist the temptation to leave a typically damp October in England and follow the sun south, taking our newly built 1600 GTA down to Portugal for the annual Algarve Classic European FIA meeting; its first proper event since we completed the build. At Portimao, we would enter the U2TC race – this series being widely accepted as the most ferociously competitive pre-66 FIA Touring Car championship in Europe. After a 32 hour journey we arrived in Portimao, a lovely and sunny 22 deg C. With perfect weather forecast for theMore... |

Spa 6 hours 2004 was a huge meeting, with over 600 cars entered to race it seemed an organisational impossibility. Nevertheless we sat on the ferry with a degree of faith in the Belgian authorities; after all they had won back their place on the F1 calendar! The Top Hat entry list of over 80 cars made for extremely varied reading; it would seem that anything and everything from the 60’s and 70’s was entered, ranging from Chevron B16s, GT40s and Lotus 23Bs through BMW 3.0 CSL ‘Batmobiles’ and 3.0 Capri’s, right through to Morris Minors and a MkVII Jaguar!More... |

After a very successful year in 2002 when Andrew Banks contested the GTA Challenge in our 2 litre 75 Twin/Spark powered GTA Replica, this year’s objective was to contest enough English Club races to enable younger son Maxim to obtain his ‘A’ licence in time for the ‘Banks Brothers’ to contest the one hour, two driver Top Hat race together at Spa Francorchamps in September. In order to do this, we needed to rejig the car with 1600cc single plug engine, shorten the gearing and put the car on a serious diet! Maxim made his racing debut on Easter MondayMore... |
