We have developed this special liner system in order to prevent the notorious head gasket failures usually encountered when running a conventional Autodelta style monosleeve liner. The problems associated with these Autodelta liners are brought about by a reduction in structural stiffness as a consequence of the base of the block having to be machined away extensively to fit this type of sleeve.
Traditionally, it had been necessary to use a monosleeve in certain instances, i.e. when running a 1750 block with 84.5mm bore (for 2000 GTAm application) and also in Nord & Twin Spark engines in order to run a bore of greater diameter than 85mm, as it is not possible to do so with Alfa type individual liners.
Our new liner system allows an original 2.0 Nord or Twin Spark block to run with a bore of up to 87mm, which in back-to-back testing has shown a power increase of 16BHP over an 85mm bore. This liner system does not require the bottom of the block to be machined in any way so that its structural stiffness is not compromised. The new system of locating the liner at the top of the block effectively converts the block into a closed deck design, considerably increasing its torsional stiffness and at the same time ensuring that the pressure of the cylinder head torque is evenly distributed through the block, rather than solely at the bottom, as is the case with the original and the Autodelta monosleeve design.
The Alfaholics Super Sleeve is offered as a fully finished block ready to assemble with the following additional work undertaken: oil galleries cross-drilled for additional feeds to the main bearings for improved oiling, block CNC milled to accept new liners, new liners manufactured and fitted, new head studs installed and main bearing journals line honed.
